The Nightmarish Duet

After leaving her hometown behind, Elle starts fresh in Washington, DC, working at a small independent bookstore and building a quiet new life shaped by her love of art history. When her best friend moves into the same apartment building, it feels like the fresh start she desperately needed.

Then the nightmares begin.

Each night, the same dream returns. longer, darker, and more violent than before. Elle wakes shaken and sometimes injured, as though the nightmare is clawing its way into reality. Even her cat senses something is wrong, growing fearful whenever Elle is near. Soon, fragments of the dream bleed into her waking life, twisting ordinary moments into something disturbing and impossible to ignore.

As Elle’s grip on reality begins to slip, the bookstore’s enigmatic owner offers her a mysterious black book, hoping it can help her end the nightmare once and for all. But some secrets are meant to stay buried. When Elle becomes trapped inside the dream itself, she must fight for control of her mind, her identity, and her life. or risk never waking again.

Elle is back for another terrifying descent into the nightmare she barely escaped.

After years of peace, Elle believes the horrors that once haunted her are finally gone. But when her fears resurface, twisted into a new and far more dangerous form, she is forced to confront the one place she swore she would never return. To stop what’s coming, Elle must find a way back to where it all began: the decaying house filled with hauntingly beautiful art that once tormented her day and night.

As the nightmare bleeds into her waking life, Elle is pushed into increasingly dire situations, forced to make impossible, heartbreaking choices. Old enemies return, new threats emerge, and trust becomes a dangerous game. Surrounded by secrets and shifting loyalties, Elle must decipher who is truly on her side before it’s too late.

Will she risk her own life to save the people she loves? Or will she save herself and watch the nightmare claim them instead?

What people are saying about Lost in a Nightmare…

Thrilling. Suspenseful. Cringeworthy. It’s an eerie read, which is exactly the point. You find yourself in the normal world of 2 young girls living their best lives in DC, then you’re thrown into a nightmare world!

This book is so suspenseful! It’s hard to put down once you are all-consumed with the storyline of what could happen in the dream-world.

LOST IN A NIGHTMARE is a rich blend of horror and thriller, emphasizing Greek mythology and the nightmares we so desperately wish to wake up from. Meadows does a wonderful job weaving together complex plot points and relational found-family dynamics while also educating the reader about some of history’s most beautiful paintings. It was a unique story for the ages, one that made my spine tingle and my body cringe.
— Amy Tackett, Author of The Gala
Absolutely loved this book. Kept me interested the whole way through. I usually lose interest in books fast but not this one. I can’t wait to see what Meadows does next!!!”

What people are saying about The Nightmare Returns…

THE NIGHTMARE RETURNS certainly lives up to its counterpart! This sequel was gritty, fantastical, and emotional. Meadows did a great job of revisiting the world she created in LOST IN A NIGHTMARE while also creating an engaging and fresh plot for her returning cast. This book once again toes the line between thriller and horror, so if you’re someone who loves a good genre blend, I would highly recommend this series!
